Jon Wright is a fourth-generation farmer from Woodstock in Central West NSW, running a 600-cow composite seedstock operation under the Coota Park Blue-E banner. The herd originated as a 50/50 Angus–Shorthorn composite and now includes modern Simmental and Stabilizer genetics. Jon and his team have been recording individual feed intake on every bull bred since 1997 – the longest of any herd in the world. Now using the Vytelle automated feeding system they feed test 140-200 bulls every year. Through accurate testing and selection for feed efficiency, the Blue-E herd has achieved 15–20% gains in feed efficiency, without sacrificing their strong multi-trait breeding focus that keeps key profit drivers at the core of their program.
