Duncan Farquhar
CEO of the Soil Carbon Industry Group
Duncan is an experienced agricultural scientist and business manager. With a background in horticulture and wine industry extension Duncan brings an intensive industry perspective to carbon farming. With higher value enterprises much more is possible. With a background in natural resource management Duncan brings an understanding of institutional arrangements to support land management decision making. He moved into the role of CEO at SCIG after working with AgriProve as Operations Manager for Tasmania.
Duncan has an interest in the social and institutional arrangements that underpin natural resource management. 'Changing mindscapes to restore landscapes' can happen when farmers take notice of farmer successes. Duncan is first author on a paper prepared by the Soil Carbon Industry Group showcasing the first 34 crediting projects under the 2021 Soil Carbon Method. This is the new body of evidence for what works to build soil carbon. As more projects move to crediting this 'knowledge' asset is growing exponentially
Duncan has a bachelor's degree in agricultural science, a master's degree in business administration from the University of Tasmania and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute for Company Directors.
